SRA Principles

As a regulated firm, we are under an obligation to abide by the SRA Principles. The Principles are considered to be the fundamental tenets of ethical behaviour that the SRA expect of those they regulate, and include the requirements for regulated persons to act:

• in a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law, and the proper administration of justice

• in a way that upholds public trust and confidence in the solicitors' profession and in legal services provided by authorised persons

• with independence

• with honesty

• with integrity

• in a way that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion

• in the best interests of each client.

SRA Code of Conduct

Firms and individuals regulated by the SRA are also required to abide by the SRA Code of Conduct for Firms, and the Code of Conduct for Solicitors, RELs and RFLs (linked here: SRA Standards and Regulations). These describe standards of professionalism that the SRA and the public expect of regulated firms and individuals and comprise a framework of ethical and competent practice. These include, but are not limited to, conflict of interest rules, rules around maintaining trust and acting fairly, and ensuring that the services we provide to clients is competent and delivered in a timely manner.

Many law firms are regulated by the SRA. However, what’s less common is non-legal services also adhering to these same strict standards of professional conduct. What makes Schillings unique is that all of the services we offer – including legal, intelligence, communications, security and diplomacy – are regulated by the SRA.

As an SRA-regulated firm, Schillings has an internal complaints procedure in place. There is also a right of appeal to the Legal Ombudsman if a client’s issue cannot be resolved satisfactorily. Our complaints handling procedure is detailed on our website, and also available here.
